Hello, my name is Tryniti Almquist (Besmalinovic). I am a fantasy and portrait photographer based in Minnesota who also works as a critical care nurse and recent Family Nurse Practitioner graduate from the University of North Dakota. While healthcare has shaped a huge part of who I am, photography has been part of my life for even longer. I have been pursuing photography since I was 16 years old, with a passion for surreal, fantasy, and fine art portraiture.

Personally, I have always been drawn to storytelling, emotion, and creating images that feel a little magical or otherworldly. To me, fantasy photography is more than just costumes or editing. It is the ability to capture an entire feeling, memory, or story within a single frame. My goal is to create images that make people feel seen, powerful, nostalgic, and a little like they stepped into another world.

In my spare time, you can usually find me planning my next trip to Walt Disney World, screaming Taylor Swift lyrics in the car one minute and blasting My Chemical Romance the next. I have watched Coraline an unhealthy number of times, firmly believe Tim Burton movies count as a personality trait, and will never pass up anything related to Alice in Wonderland.

I am also the proud mother of a tiny 3.5-pound Yorkie named Rey, who somehow manages to run the entire household despite being smaller than most cats. My brother is my built-in best friend and favorite person to annoy.

You will rarely catch me without brightly colored hair, a hyper-fixation on something nerdy, or a new creative idea consuming my brain. My Hogwarts house is Ravenclaw, my lightsaber would absolutely be purple, and if life could permanently feel like walking through Magic Kingdom at night, I would not complain.

Fun Fact: My husband and I got married at Pandora - The World of Avatar in Disney's Animal Kingdom in February of 2022. I never shut up about it as it was the most magical day of my life.

Where did the name “Black Bow Photography” come from?

Believe it or not, the name comes from the original 1951 Alice in Wonderland film. Growing up, my family took countless trips to Walt Disney World, and I was the kid who obsessively rewatched every Disney movie I could get my hands on. In 2014, I even completed a seven-month internship at Walt Disney World (still one of the best experiences of my life).

When my brother and I were little, we spent a lot of weekends at my Grandma Karen’s house. One of the movies she owned was Alice in Wonderland, and we watched it over and over to the point where I’m pretty sure we could quote the entire thing. It became one of those tiny childhood memories that quietly sticks with you forever.

In the movie, Alice wears a simple black bow in her hair. Funny enough, as a kid and teenager, I almost always wore black bows or ribbons myself. Somewhere along the way, they became tied to creativity, nostalgia, imagination, and that slightly whimsical feeling I’ve always tried to capture in my work.

So when it came time to name my photography business, “Black Bow Photography” just felt right. A little nostalgic. A little magical. Very me.

FAQ

Where are you located and do you travel?

I’m located 20 minutes north of St. Paul. If required to driver further than 40 minutes from my home, a slight fee may be required pending the circumstances. I LOVE to travel out of state and would not hesitate to do so for any of your photoshoot needs.

How do payments work?

I require a $50 deposit at the time of booking via a signed contract for everything other than elopements! For elopements, I require a 25% deposit at the time of booking. The rest of the sum owed can be paid at any point leading up to the session with the exception of elopements which must be paid 30 days in advance.

Do you offer photo albums?

Yes! I am willing to compile and ship a beautifully printed photobook for an extra fee.

When can I expect to get my photos back?

Portrait sessions are usually returned in less than 3 weeks. Elopements may take 6 to 8 weeks.

Do you give out raw (unedited) files?
No. I pour my heart and soul into every session I edit. RAW files are not a true representation of myself as an artist, so they are something I do not relinquish.
